When I believed I could find the time to make a weekly comic. I was so ambitious. So bright-eyed and ready to take on the world. If only I had known then what I know now...

I've started rehearsing for my first ever musical (well, I did three musicals from 4th-6th grades, but those don't count). Even though the schedule itself is not bad, my commute + my terrible time management skills + a new found laziness at home = less time for my awesome comic strip that doesn't exist yet. It'll come. Just not sure when.

The musical is intimidating as I have several "solos." And by "solos" I mean songs where I can't hide my voice in a chorus. I'm the only inexperienced singer in the cast, which certainly adds to the intimidation factor. But I'm having a good time and I'm working outside my comfort zone, which makes me feel like I'm challenging myself. Hopefully it'll turn out great. But if it sucks, I'll go ahead and take the blame now.

Public Pressure

I've been talking about it for years. It's finally coming. I think. I don't know, really, since I haven't started it. My own weekly comic strip.

I've been inspired by MMyers' weekly strip. I don't know how I'm gonna do it. I'm not sure if it will be color or scanned pencils. Expect the weekly adventures of crackhead9000 starting by this Saturday night.

You have been warned.

Sorry about that link, but stupid people (even the scary ones) are kinda funny.

UPDATE: Saturday was a little ambitious. And by ambitious I mean I didn't make the time to do it. Expect it by midweek, or I will eat a toe for every day until it comes out. My own toes. My camel toes. I've gone through several phases of what I enjoy and what I find stupid. Often what I find stupid one year, I'll fondly love years later.

Despite my fickle tastes, there have always been two characters that I strongly identify with. First up is Thanos. The basic story of Thanos is that he has virtually unlimited power, but the only thing that continually defeats him is himself. Self-doubt is his weakness. Much like Thanos, I start self-sabotaging right at the point where it seems like success is just around the corner. Sometimes consciously, other times it's my body that betrays me. A crappy glass ceiling that I've created for myself. Boo.

The character I most aspire to be like, however, is Captain America. The great thing about Cap is that he believes whole-heartedly in the best ideals of what America stands for. He is not a blind jingoistic patriot punching Muslims in the face, but a brave compassionate man who fights to protect the good. Not to force democracy. Not to further a personal agenda. It doesn't matter how difficult the odds facing him are, Cap will always do what he believes is right. I'm not kidding when I say I've found myself in many morally ambiguous situations asking, "What would Captain America do?" And while the answer is rarely the easy choice, it's almost always the right one.

There's a million other characters that I see little bits of myself in, but what about you dear readers? Are there characters (doesn't have to be comics) that you identify with or model yourself after?

The Never Ending Gestation of An Idea

Do you have a thought that you want to put out there so perfectly that it prevents you from acting on it? Since I started this blog, I've wanted to do a rant on opinions. Ironically enough, I'm not sure what my stand is on it. Being in the world of the Arts, my work and performances are judged by opinions. Certainly what I find funny is not what my parents find funny (although we do have plenty of common ground there). But every time I sit down to write about how frustrating and destructive opinions are, I realize that opinions are the beliefs that make us individuals. So I can't hate them. And we are all judgemental hypocrites for mearly having them.

Anywho, I'm gonna write it. I'm going to form an opinion on opinions and blow the lid off the whole conspiracy. It will be effective on January 1st, 2007. Toybiz has produced some of the finest action figures ever released under the Marvel banner, always walking the line between fantastic sculpts and amazing articulation. Their biggest problems have always been with distribution, but once Hasbro assumes the license that will most likely go away. As will the attention and care put into the construction of the figures. And the bold choices of what figures get made. The greatest difficulty for the nerd, though, is that Toybiz is desperately trying to get rid of all their stock before they lose the rights. The past two months have seen the release of three sets of Marvel Legends (6 to 8 figures per set at $8 each), two sets of Marvel Icons (10 figures total including variants at $15 each), two box sets ($30 each), new Marvel Showdown figures ($15 bucks for starter packs, $8 per figure), Fantastic Four series two (6 figures at $7 each), and a new set of Amazing Spiderman figures (3 decent ones, $7 each). Even if I wasn't a broke ass actor, I couldn't afford to keep up with this. Tis a sad day in Nerdville...

BLOGSUCKER!

I watched "Lenny" the other night, the Bob Fosse film version of Lenny Bruce's life story. It's hard to believe that 40 years ago you could get arrested for saying "fuck" and "cocksucker." It's also NOT hard to believe that the people that have really done the most to fight for "our freedom" seem to be those on the fringe more than politicians. Lenny Bruce, Jello Biafra (who practically went broke defending his right to stick a tiny poster of a painting in a DK album), hell even Dee Snyder went to bat during the 80's against Tipper Gore. So the next time you're in front of a large group of people, show your support for these freedom fighters by yelling "cocksucker" at the top of your lungs while wearing makeup and a t-shirt with an H.R. Giger painting on it. I stopped "playing" with toys (collecting doesn't count) at age 14. I masturbated for the first time at age 18 (I've made up for lost time since then). I lost my virginity five days before my 21st birthday. I didn't ask my wife for our first date until I had received a confirmation from an outside party that she was interested. Now here I am, in 2006 at the age of 33, writing my first blog.

What can you and I expect from this blog? I have no idea. Hopefully I'll surprise myself. I'm sure I'll tell you about what a goober I am. I'll probably tell one too many stories about poop. I'm gonna link to really dorky stuff as soon as I figure everything out. Maybe I'll throw in some of my drawings and short films.

Anywho, any thoughts and ideas are always more than welcome. This is another first step for me, and as insignificant as it may seem I'm kinda anxious about it. I'm embarrassed of my thoughts when they're in my head, and now I'm gonna post them for the world to see. God help me.
